The Journey Begins

Why I Created “A Journey Through Rules, Regulations, and Realisation”

The seed for this blog was planted back in 2010, during my first Vipassana meditation course. Ten days of silence changed something within me: offering clarity, calm and a way to see life beyond the surface. Some of the thoughts that emerged during that time have stayed with me ever since. I’ve shared them with friends over the years, and as they resonated, they quietly formed the foundation for this space.

But the story begins earlier. It begins with me joining a government service, where I spent three decades working in the field of indirect taxation. That world was defined by structure, rules and expectations. Yet beneath the discipline of the job, there was often a deeper conflict – a constant tension between doing what was required and doing what felt right.

The complexities of the role often meant navigating grey areas. Sometimes, the clarity of conscience blurred under the weight of conformity, hierarchy or the quiet fear of standing out. Those moments left a lasting impression. They shape the questions I carry even today.

As life moved forward, a quiet shift began, one that gradually led me away from rigid systems and closer to a space where I could stay true to my values. In my latter years of service, and now in my work as a consultant, my efforts are no longer shaped by the demands of the system, but by the hope of offering real support to those who need it most – an honest taxpayer caught in the web of legal intricacies. It’s work that lets me help others navigate complexity with clarity and conscience, always within the bounds of law, and always with a sense of purpose.

The journey hasn’t been easy. It hasn’t brought fame or fanfare. But it has been fulfilling, a journey of growth and understanding. Honesty and transparency are the principles that continue to guide me well beyond my years in uniform. This is about finding peace in doing what’s right – not because it’s convenient, but because it matters.

This blog, A Journey Through Rules, Regulations, and Realisation, isn’t meant to teach or preach. It’s simply a space to reflect on what I’ve seen, struggled through and slowly come to understand. Some insights took shape in the rigours of work, some in the effort of supporting a family and some in honouring both the relationships we’re born into and those we build along the way. Others came quietly, in meditation or through passing conversations that lingered long after they were over.

If you’ve ever found yourself at a crossroads, torn between what was expected of you and what your inner voice gently urged, you might find something here that speaks to you.
